It could be a new state record in Texas — a massive swordfish weighing in at nearly 500 pounds was pulled out of the Gulf of Mexico this week. Fishermen are known for telling stories that are sometimes larger than life. But what this crew reeled in was really big — a nearly 500 pound swordfish smashing the Texas record swordfish. This week’s offshore fishing report comes from the boat Booby Trap, hailing from Freeport, TX. These guys have been busy crushing the swordfish during their offshore trips to the canyons and seamounts off the Texas coastline. Last week they hooked and landed a potential Texas state record swordfish that weighed in at 493 pounds back at Surfside Marina. There is no doubt that the Booby Trap has established itself as the best swordfishing boat in the Gulf of Mexico. We will continue to keep you posted on the status of their potential state record swordfish, and we will report any exciting new catches in our 2013 Summer Texas fishing reports.
